Anagnorisis is the moment in a story when a character comes to realize the true nature of their circumstance. The realization which occurs right before that character changes course. Greyflood’s newest record is a moment for the listener have their own Anagnorisis.

Greyflood’s Anagnorisis is contemplative in nature. The opening track, Act I: Introspection, is patiently hypnotic. The steady pulse of the drums underlying large open chords invite the listener to pull back and be still, to let the mind wander to the unresolved. Act II: Doubt pulls the listener into the unfolding of uncertainty into exhaustion. Beginning with an eerie drone and haunting melody the song intensifies into a frantic dissonance emulating the crushing weight of being overwhelmed. Act III: Resolve, comes in quietly with an innocent optimism, and carries the listener along the actualizing of hope.

The three acts in Anagnorisis function as a musical backdrop to each stage in the mental process. When music is often bombarding us with outside thoughts and ideas, Anagnorisis gives us the opportunity to think and feel our own.
